Hailing from Campo Grande, Brazil, Mateus Asato has carved out his distinctive style and sound for over a decade, from self-recorded social media soloing to sharing the stage with Grammy winner Bruno Mars. Earning a well-deserved signature pickup offering from Suhr, the namesake Mateus Asato 'T' (M.A.T.) was designed in collaboration with John Suhr to capture Mateus’s distinctive playstyle, stemming from his blend of blues, rock, and neo-soul elements and his flexible tonal palette and otherworldly technique.
“I believe this is what we spent the most time on in the process of making my brand new signature Classic T with Suhr. After trying some pickup combinations on my Classic T prototypes, the feeling of ‘wanting something different’ was still there. This is when John came up with the idea of designing a new set of pickups for me – the M.A.T. series. The final result was beyond my expectations. The M.A.T. pickups are a combination of everything I imagine on a Classic T guitar: sparkle but rounded and fat sounding; also providing a considerable variety of sounds from jazz to rock – very appropriate to explore as many styles of playing as possible from finger-style to playing with a pick.”

In the 1990s, John collaborated with celebrated rig builder Bob Bradshaw to design the now-legendary CAA 3+ and 3+SE preamps and the CAA OD-100 amplifier. In 1997, after a stint as senior master builder for Fender’s Custom Shop, John founded his own company, a decision that enabled him to bring to fruition products of unrivaled quality, detail, and craftsmanship.
